Choosing a quality carpet

by Adam Peters

This article is about the quality carpets and how they change the entire look of a place.

Some of our friends had recently purchased a home not far away from our lake home. It was an old house, located around the lake but in need of some tender and loving care. The house was an all time used one that was in use by one or the other member of the family in almost all the seasons. The youngsters also used to crash there on weekends for their late night parties. With having different people coming in and out of the house at different times the regular maintenance which a single owner carries out was left undone. When my friend took the charge single handedly, the first thing she wanted to do was have the whole carpeting replaced.

She was able to acquire the membership of the lake house one month prior to actually moving in there. This gave her time to work on the house in peace before actually moving her things in there. The first time I walked into the house I immediately understood what my friend meant about finding quality carpets. The living room area was done from wall to wall with a worn and discolored carpet. Traces, however, said that it could once have been a quality carpet upon the time of purchasing. My friend had brought several quality carpets samples from a local dealer. She had been asked to highlight her choices among the carpet samples that she liked and he would then come out to measure the area.

The need of quality carpets extended to the bedroom area too. The only carpeting that was in good shape was the one in the master bedroom. But it was in such an ugly color that it needed replacing too. The quality carpets were going to cost a fortune and that I guess was my friend’s major concern. Especially when she had to get 3 bedrooms as well as the living room done. We all agreed that even though this meant for a large expense initially, it would be much easier to have the carpet installed before having the furniture moved in.

One of the ways they could save money was to remove the existing carpet themselves. When the guys started removing the carpet and padding they found that there were hardwood floors in the living room area. The hardwood was in a nice shape; it just needed cleaning and a coat of sealer. There was one dark spot that must have been caused by water damage, but it was located where it could be covered by a piece of furniture. Our friend was pleased that not only did she not have to purchase quality carpets for this room, but that she had beautiful wood floors to add to the beauty of the room.

My friend and I went shopping for quality carpets that were to be used as area rugs instead of wall-to-wall carpeting. This was much less expensive and they could be conveniently changed whenever a different color scheme was wanted.

The lake home then started to look much better. The carpets in the bedrooms made them feel and look cleaner.
